Our History

The Red Lion has been at the heart of East Kirkby since the mid-19th century, standing as a familiar landmark long before the roar of aircraft filled the skies. Its story is closely tied to RAF East Kirkby, the wartime base just down the road that once housed 57 and 630 Squadrons.

During the Second World War, aircrew would often step through the Red Lion’s doors to relax, regroup, and find a moment of normality. Their presence is still felt today — most notably in the round table carved with the names of those who successfully completed full tours. After a period of closure, the pub has been carefully revived, honouring its heritage while offering a warm, genuine welcome to locals, visitors, and aviation enthusiasts alike.
